Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.s)
GENERAL
Q - Are Grampaskits safe?
A - If handled properly, yes. For example, anyone can poke themselves with any sharp object, and the copper wire could be sharp enough. But, if care is taken, Grampaskits are safe.
Q - Are all of the safety precautions listed on the instructions?
A - Safety precautions are on the instructions, on an inserted disclaimer, on the box, and here in FAQ’s.
Q - Is everything included in Grampaskits or do I need to supply some of the materials?
A - The beauty of Grampaskits is that all of the hard-to-get parts are included. Grampa will supply a coffee cup, or a pair of scissors, or some water. Easy stuff.
Q - Can kids play with/assemble Grampaskits by themselves?
A - No. Adult supervision is always required.
Q - For what age group are Grampaskits intended?
A - This is not a simple answer. I was doing them with my Children as young as 5, and using them in my classroom for Students as old as 18. All Kids love them. I hate to admit it, but sometimes they fight over them. If you are reading this, then your Grandchildren are probably ready.
Q - Are the activities easy to complete?
A - Yes. Complete instructions accompany each Kit.
Q - Do you have to be a Scientist to use Grampaskits?
A - Absolutely not. You don’t have to be anything but a great Grampa.
Q - How many activities do you get in each Grampaskits package?
A - In Edition 1, you get 8. We may lower it in future editions to lower the price. Cost will be very important, as some of the parts are not only hard to get, but expensive.
Q - How fast can you ship Grampaskits?
A - Ordinarily, under a week.
Q - Is there any more Grampaskits?
A - We are planning 4 more editions, but none are available at present.
Q - Do you give discounts on shipping multiple kits?
A - Yes. Tell me how many you want, and I’ll ask the Post Office how much it will cost to ship them. That’s what you will pay.
Q - Do you have directions posted on the web?
A - No. For trademark reasons.
Q - Is there any on-line help in case we get stuck on any of the projects?
A - I will do whatever is humanly possible to help if you are having any trouble. You can send me an email, and one of us will get back to you by phone asap. I sincerely want you to have fun with these kits, and will do whatever I can to assure that you do.
Q - Can individual activities be ordered without purchasing the entire 8-Kit set?
A - We will try to accommodate anyone who wished to do an activity for a large group. Remember that an adult/teacher must supervise these activities.
Q - Will any of the parts/materials expire (in the sense that they will not work if not used soon)?
A - No. Most are sealed in baggies and will last until you are ready to use them.
Q - Is
POPPER KIT
Q - Is the Popper safe?
A - There are certain safety measures to e followed with the Popper. (1) Use only Grampas after-shave lotion, or Binaca, as a fuel. NEVER USE GASOLINE OR MINERAL SPIRITS, which can cause forces beyond the capacity of the canister, causing it to break into pieces. (2) Never point it at anyone, (3) Use it only out of doors, and (4) Don’t use it near anything flammable. (See next question)
Q - Can the Kids operate the Popper.
A - Under Grampa Supervision, yes. My Grandchildren play with it for hours, trying all my aftershaves to see which works the best.
SLIME KIT
Q - Why can’t Slime be used on porous surfaces like wood or carpet?
A - Because there is food coloring in it which will stain these surfaces. Any non-porous surface, like glass, is fine.
Q - How long does Slime last.
A - I have kept it in a baggie for 4 years. When it starts to dry, I just add a few drops of water to the baggie. The next time the kids take it out, it is fine again.
Q - Can you eat the Slime?
A - No. The Slime is not to be eaten. It might make you sick.
Q - Can you change the color of Slime?
A - If you want to add your own food coloring, you can change the color. Do this before you mix the ingredients.
